Radio Interviews for Your Book

April 14, 2019 By Connie Ragen Green

Radio Interviews for Your BookRadio interviews for your book are an excellent way to start marketing.

This is a great way to get your name out there, especially locally. Don’t grimace at the idea of marketing yourself locally. Your local market has a lot more to offer you than you think. Consider how many people right in your area might be interested in your book, and how many people they know and will tell. The important thing is to get the audience right.

  • Choose the Right Type of Station – Depending on the genre of your book, different stations and different shows on one station will attract audiences that are poles apart than another station or show. Ensure that it’s the right place for you to be interviewed. You can also do interviews on local, college, and even internet radio stations. Often you don’t even have to be there in person, but can do it over the phone or the net depending on the situation.
  • Figure Out Who To Contact – It’s also important to know who to contact to manage to get the interview. If you contact the wrong person, you may not be able to convince them to interview you because they’re just not the right person. Do some research and work on making the right connections.
  • Write Your Own Questions – Sometimes it will help to submit some sample questions and answers and explain to them how this will help their show. Do some studying about their audience and show them how much their audience will enjoy the interview.
  • Offer to Give a Prize – It really helps if you can make some promises to give away a signed copy of your book and perhaps even something else to go with it to their audience during the interview. For example, if you are trying to market your “101 Recipes You Can Make with Your Waffle Iron” cookbook, why not give away a free Waffle Iron. You might even try to get a company that makes Waffle Irons involved.

The important thing if you want to do radio interviews is to contact the right people, give them information about who you are, why you’re a great person to interview and why their audience will enjoy it and what they’ll get out of it. In this way you can promote your book around the entire country as well as locally.
